Summary
Lead vehicle cybersecurity and functional safety (FuSa) integration and test engineer for Scout Motors' Software Defined Vehicle platform. Validates secure boot, OTA security, ISO/SAE 21434 and ISO 26262 controls across ECU architectures, CAN/LIN/Ethernet networks, and HIL/SIL environments using MATLAB/Simulink, CANalyzer/CANoe, and dSpace.

We are seeking a highly skilled Vehicle Security & Functional Safety (FuSa) Integration and Test Engineer to lead validation, integration, and verification activities for next-generation Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platforms. This role focuses on ensuring vehicle systems meet cybersecurity and functional safety requirements across ECU integration, middleware validation, network security, OTA workflows, and full vehicle testing. The engineer will work across embedded platforms, vehicle communication stacks, and validation infrastructure to ensure secure, safe, and production-ready software releases.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in automotive cybersecurity, ISO 26262, embedded systems validation, and vehicle integration environments like modern SDV organizations

- Integrate and validate vehicle cybersecurity mechanisms across distributed ECU architectures.
- Perform security testing for secure boot, secure flashing, ECU authentication, secure diagnostics, vehicle communication security, OTA security validation
- Validate implementation of cybersecurity controls aligned with ISO/SAE 21434, UNECE R155/R156, OEM cybersecurity requirements
- Develop and execute penetration and vulnerability testing strategies for vehicle systems.
- Support threat analysis and risk assessment (TARA) activities.
- Validate cryptographic services, key provisioning, certificate handling, and secure communication protocols.
- Support integration and verification of functional safety requirements aligned with ISO 26262.
- Validate safety-critical software and system behavior across ECU and vehicle-level integrations.
- Execute and automate fault injection testing, safety mechanism validation, watchdog verification, diagnostic coverage analysis, fail-safe and fail-operational testing
- Verify safety requirements traceability and test coverage.
- Collaborate with system safety, platform, and software teams during safety validation activities.
- Design and execute edge-case scenarios power loss during flashing, ignition/arbitration cycles mid-update and reliability with network interruptions (packet loss, latency spikes)
- Validate recovery strategies, rollback behavior, ECU reprogramming resilience to ensure no-brick behavior for safety-critical ECUs
- Design scalable regression test suites for consistent behavior across simulated and real-world environments across SIL, HIL and vehicle infrastructure
- Analyze large-scale CAN/Ethernet logs for intermittent failures, cross-ECU timing mismatches, system-level integration issues
Location & Travel Expectations:
- This role may be based out of the Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.
- This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

- Master’s degree in Electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 10+ yrs. of experience
- Strong understanding of vehicle E/E architecture and ECU-level software stacks, automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet), UDS diagnostics (ISO 14229) and diagnostic communication tools
- Expert knowledge of Jira, GitHub/GitLab, Jenkins, and Artifactory. ALM/PLM proficiency in Siemens Polarion, IBM DOORS Next Gen, or PTC Windchill.
- Strong understanding, development and verification of plant and control models in MATLAB/Simulink for execution in hardware in the loop test environment, dSpace control desk and automation desk
- Strong understanding of 1st principles in Engineering, result/solution oriented.
- Familiarity with SW for embedded systems, EE systems and architecture
- Familiarity with A2B, CAN, Automotive Ethernet, LIN, LVDS communication protocols and Vehicle Network tools, such as CANalyzer, CANoe, etc.‚
- Expertise with complex problem solving, data analysis, access/interpret/drive results with extended teams.
- Knowledge of Automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
