Staff Data Engineer

You will lead the design and evolution of a data platform supporting analytics, product insights, integrations, and machine learning. You will set technical direction, design and implement reliable data infrastructure, lead cross-team initiatives, improve reliability and efficiency, establish engineering standards, partner on regulatory requirements, influence priorities, and mentor senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Set and evolve the technical direction of the data platform
• Lead complex cross-team initiatives from architectural decisions through implementation
• Design and build real-time pipelines, shared tooling, reusable frameworks, and scalable data infrastructure
• Establish secure, consistent, and efficient engineering paths
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency
• Partner with Security, Compliance, Product, and Engineering teams on operational and regulatory requirements
• Identify systemic risks and reduce unnecessary complexity
• Strengthen standards for data modelling, pipeline design, observability, testing, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code
• Influence technical priorities and planning
• Mentor senior engineers through design reviews, code reviews, documentation, and collaboration

Requirements

• Significant experience designing and evolving large-scale data platforms
• Experience with distributed and stream processing systems
• Deep knowledge of real-time and event-driven architectures
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams or domains
• Experience building platform capabilities, shared services, and reusable engineering patterns
• Strong judgement across reliability, scalability, performance, governance, security, and cost management
• Ability to make high-level architectural decisions and contribute to hands-on implementation
• Experience influencing engineers and stakeholders on shared technical standards and long-term priorities
• Experience mentoring experienced engineers
• Strong communication skills
• Experience working in a regulated environment or designing systems with compliance and auditability requirements
