Job Overview
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer L6 to provide technical leadership, architectural direction, and hands-on engineering impact across mission-critical applications. This role serves as a recognized technical authority, driving platform strategy, identity and security patterns, cloud modernization, and large-scale service design across business units and product lines.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Java, relational databases, distributed systems, and cloud services with strong experience in OAuth2/OpenID Connect, federated identity, and SSO. This person will influence engineering standards, strategy, and roadmap direction while serving as a bridge between engineering and product.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architectural Strategy
- Lead architecture and design reviews, providing guidance on scalability, performance, security, and reliability across enterprise platforms.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, design principles, testing strategies, and architectural governance.
- Translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and platform modernization strategies.
- Drive the adoption of cloud-native, event-driven, and identity-first architectural patterns.
System Design & Hands-On Engineering
- Contribute directly to codebases, model engineering excellence and unblock high-risk initiatives.
- Review and evolve existing architectures to scale to millions of users and support robust data retrieval performance.
- Ensure interoperability across multiple APIs, services, and platforms
- Drive best practices in operational readiness, including performance testing, resiliency engineering, failure injection, and observability.
Operational & Reliability Ownership
- Monitor performance and platform SLAs using tools such as Datadog and define performance improvement plans grounded in data.
- Lead major incident response efforts and root cause analyses (RCA), driving systemic improvements and long-term risk reduction.
Cross-Team & Cross-Business Collaboration
- Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure technology strategies align with business outcomes.
- Influence roadmap prioritization and investment decisions with strong technical and business reasoning.
- Serve as a visible and trusted technical leader across the organization.
Mentorship, Talent Development & Leadership Multiplication
- Mentor and uplift senior engineers, Staff/Principal engineers, and technical leaders to expand organizational technical capacity.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and engineering excellence.
- Model high standards in communication, architectural thinking, engineering rigor, and strategic influence.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with increasing technical and leadership scope.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservice architectures, and distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Proven experience scaling high-traffic, mission-critical systems in cloud environments.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and influence leaders across teams and functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong understanding of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, secure API design, and federated identity.
- Experience implementing federation and SSO using Azure AD B2C or other enterprise identity providers.
- Direct experience influencing roadmaps, modernization initiatives, or multi-year platform strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership in cloud modernization, developer productivity, and architectural transformation programs.
