Comcare is an established Mental Health and Housing provider assisting people with mental health or addiction issues to live well in the community. We provide a rich and diverse range of Mental Health Support Services, Housing and Housing Support Services.


Primary care organisations have been working with NGOs, Te Whatu Ora-Health New Zealand service users and international experts over the past six years to develop a new way to provide convenient, personalised care and support for people experiencing mental distress or addiction challenges. The Te Tumu Waiora model of care is the culmination of that work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Worker to join the Comcare / Te Tumu Waiora team, supporting 4 medical centres across the Northern Canterbury area.

About this role

The Support Worker provides practical support, guidance and empowerment to individuals and their whānau as they work towards improved health and wellbeing.


This service provides short-term, targeted interventions that build confidence and independence. Support may include increasing community connection, developing healthy routines, helping people to navigate health, social, cultural, and community services.

What you’ll be doing

This role is fully integrated within primary care, you will be working collaboratively with Health Coaches, Health Improvement Practitioner (HIP’s), general practice teams and wider community organisations to support people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges connecting them with the support they need to achieve their goals.


The range of work is broad and is developed through personalised planning based on supporting the individual to use their strengths to overcome barriers to their independence and autonomy.


About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Wide knowledge of community services available in the North Canterbury area, preferable but not essential.
  • Great communication, both verbal and written. Must be able to keep clear and accurate notes and able to liase with multiple stakeholders.
  • Relationship management, able to build positive relationships quickly with new colleagues across various locations and with people needing support.
  • Skilled practitioner that can help people achieve and/or set clear goals and support them to implement the plan in a culturally safe way.


It is desirable that you have a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 - Mental Health and Addiction Support (or equivalent qualification) or are committed to studying towards one.


Experience in the mental health and disability sector would be an advantage.


Applicants must hold a current full, clean driver’s license.


You will have a cultural awareness, knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Eligibility
