Wisconsin Building Supply operates locations throughout Wisconsin supplying windows, doors, roofing, siding, millwork, builders hardware, columns, trim, mouldings, cabinetry, countertops, decking, railing, gypsum, lumber & plywood, insulation, and additional building materials.

A Brief OverviewThe Operations Manager I directs and coordinates activities of the Division's operations team to ensure operational excellence. This position has extensive knowledge of the warehouse process, dispatch/transportation process, counter sales process, and products. Typically manages locations with revenue up to $15M annually.
What you will do
- Manage and coordinate operational activities across warehouse, counter sales, dispatch/transportation, and delivery functions; establish location goals and work schedules to meet operational, service, and sales objectives.
- Lead and develop a team of 6+ direct and indirect associates, including hiring and termination decisions, training, goal setting, work assignments, performance management and feedback, wage recommendations, and communication of expectations; partner with HR and other support departments to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain performance metrics, including order fill rate, on-time delivery, equipment utilization, inventory accuracy, and departmental productivity; conduct audits and use results to develop strategies and tactics that drive operational excellence.
- Manage monthly operations P&L performance; assist in preparing store budgets; monitor departmental expenses and labor costs; and review production, financial, and operational reports to ensure performance aligns with budget and business objectives.
- Drive warehouse and delivery efficiencies by optimizing product flow, space and labor utilization, inventory levels, and cycle counting processes to achieve on-time delivery and meet customer needs.
- Oversee operational equipment and vehicles, ensuring required servicing, inspections, vehicle condition reports, and maintenance are completed and deficiencies are addressed.
- Maintain excellent customer relations and quality standards; partner with Sales management to ensure effective communication and training, resolve customer issues and complaints, and follow up to achieve mutually satisfactory outcomes.
- Monitor workplace safety and ensure adherence to established safety guidelines; enforce company policies and procedures involving customers, vendors, and employees.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled operations meetings with operations and location managers; ensure counter, driver, and warehouse meetings are conducted; and review personnel assignments with Branch Managers, recommending adjustments based on service needs and sales plans.
- Resolve operational challenges, implement and sustain best practices, and continuously identify opportunities to improve operational performance, team effectiveness, and overall location results while maintaining budget accountability.

Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience Qualifications
- 4-6 years of experience leading a team in a manufacturing or distribution setting required.
- 4-6 years of building material industry with strong knowledge of products and application required.
- 5+ years of operational experience with significant career experience in a fast-paced distribution organization.
Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of general operations management and financial principles.
- Deep understanding of logistics management and fleet management systems and practices.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated presentation skills required.
- Proficiency in MS Office products, computer-based inventory control system (WMS preferred), etc. Other area specific software as needed.
- Must lead by example and exhibit an entrepreneurial and strategic spirit accompanied with excellent interpersonal skills, strong advocate of promoting quality and continuous process improvement.
- Working knowledge of building industry and support operations and/or the distribution industry operations.
- Must maintain and enhance positive customer relations.
- Accounting and business math skills.
- Ability to develop, promote and maintain good customer relations.
- Ability to maintain good housekeeping and safe working environment.
- Must have a good understanding of OSHA requirements.
- Proficiency in leadership duties including excellent professional communication skills and an ability to motivate a team in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
