QA Automation Engineer

Overview

The QA/Automation Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and executing automated testing capabilities that ensure the quality, reliability, accessibility, performance, and security for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS) deliver secure, reliable, and effective Information Technology (IT) solutions that support the Department’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain automated testing frameworks, including functional, regression, performance, Section 508 accessibility, and security testing.
  • Use automated unit and system tests, test cases, and test plans to support TDD and security validation.
  • Ensure test coverage aligns with Agile requirements, integrations, and sprint deliverables.
  • Support Sprint testing activities and ensure traceability across requirements → configurable items → test cases → results
  • Support IV&V, ISQA, and independent quality validation.
  • Ensure compliance with Section 508, vulnerability remediation, and VA SDLC requirement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or IT related degree with 6-10 years' experience
  • Experience covering functional, regression, performance, 508 accessibility, and security testing.
  • Experience supporting Agile/Scrum teams and contributing to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps automation.
  • Experience conducting pre‑ and post‑release testing, synthetic monitoring, and load/performance testing.
  • Experience producing Release Quality Metrics Reports and contributing to independent testing (IV&V, ISQA
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices
  • Demonstrated performance with Oracle/SQL; relational/non-relational data; APIs; ETL/ELT; data models/dictionaries; migration architecture; reconciliation
  • Public Trust

Preferred:

  • Performance using Selenium, SOAPUI; Section 508 automation; CI/CD-integrated testing
